A few weeks ago I got the idea in my head that I *needed* and IPAD. Why? Because I loved the XBMC remote app on my iPhone so much that I thought it would be even better if I had an IPAD.
So that’s right, basically I was buying an IPAD to use as a big expensive remote!
I managed to put the idea off for a few weeks, then after asking a few people at work and people I knew who had them, they pretty much all said “I didn’t think I’d use it that much, but now I use it for everything”….
I managed to put it off for a few more weeks, I kept telling myself 1) I’ve got a good desktop computer, 2) I’ve got a decent laptop, 3) I’ve got another smaller 12.5” laptop which is lightweight for when I go away….
Then I stumbled across the curry’s website which has an offer on the 64GB IPAD2 and before I knew it I had committed to buying and it had been delivered!
I went for the 3G Version, and simply got another giffgaff micro sim so for £5 a month I get 500mb data which is more than enough.
Not only is it great for controlling everything (my XBMC setup, ITunes library’s etc) Heck I even VNC on to my iPhone so I can reply to messages on there!
But it’s got some amazing apps for IT professionals. E.g:
The list is pretty much endless.
I now find myself more and more using my IPAD for every day web browsing (which to be honest apart from web design was the only thing I really used to do with my desktop PC).
Meaning my desktop is off a lot of the time now, and everything is done on the IPAD.
Battery life is also great, and the range of apps is as you’d expect (if you own an iPhone you know how big the app store is).
Now I’ve been left wondering why I waited so long to get one!
